Auto driver, dies minutes after being slapped by woman at Padubidri

Padubidri, Nov 08, 2018: Minutes after allegedly being openly slapped by a woman for alleged harassment, a 47-year-old autorickshaw driver died while he was being taken to the Padubidri Police Station in Udupi district on November 7, Wednesday.

Auto driverAccording to Padubidri police, Dinesh Sanil (47), a resident of Manampady in Mangaluru taluk, was reportedly calling a 32-year-old woman repeatedly and harassing her. On November 7, Wednesday, the woman asked him to go to the Padubidri Bus Stand. As he approached her at the bus stand, the woman was with her father. She allegedly slapped Sanil and later, she and her father took Sanil in an autorickshaw to the police station.

A few metres away from the police station, Sanil reportedly developed chest pain and they took him to a private hospital. The hospital authorities reported him as brought dead, the police said.

Sanil’s brother Suresh has filed a complaint asking the police to find out whether Sanil died following an assault by the woman or because of his health problem. The police have registered a case under Section 174 (Police to inquire and report on deaths under suspicious circumstances) of the Criminal Procedure Code.
