Atrocity case: Non-bailable warrant against sub-inspector Prakash

Mangalore, Aug 29, 2014: A non-bailable warrant against Prakash, former sub-inspector (SI) of Mangalore rural police station, by third JMFC court on charges of atrocities against three persons some four years ago.

SI PrakashPersons named, Justin Vas, his son Joel Vas, and Gangadhar, residents of Adyarpadavu near Neermarga, were summoned to the police station on January 2, 2010 over a complaint relating to land disputes, who were supposed to have been subjected to atrocities by SI Prakash. The trio had had stated that the SI had made them undress in the police station and forcibly had their pubic hair removed.  The court also ordered the police station to collect Rs 10,000 as personal bond from him.

Though the case has progressed, SI Prakash has not attended the court till date. On August 28 too he failed to attend and the third JMFC court issued a non-bailable warrant against sub-inspector consequently.

SI Prakash is said to have also filed five false cases under crime no 30/2010, 139/2010, 196/2010, 110/2011, and 112/201 against the trio. Following the incident, the agrrieved approached the State Human Rights Commission which had filed a case based on the report of DCP Ramesh and duly instructed Prakash to compensate the three with Rs 25,000. They claimed that Prakash had refused to pay this amount, and that he filed a writ petition in the high court to justify his act.  Advocate Dinesh Hegde Ullepadi is arguing the case on behalf of the plaintiff. He said the next hearing will be on October 10. The case has generated interest  due the involvement of Human rights activists.
