The police said that the case was referred to them by a court following which an FIR has been filed against Chandrashekhar Bhat, his wife Rajni C. Bhat and their associate Girish Kamath from Mangaluru. They have been charged with forgery and cheating.

Police sources said that Bhat is missing since news of the complaint emerged.

Bhat is from Mulki in Dakshina Kannada district. He is among the most sought-after astrologers in the city. In 2013, sleuths of the Income Tax Department had searched his premises and recovered documents that revealed undisclosed income.
