Though as per the rules only 21 tons of sand can be transported, the officials have failed to take strict action against those lorries which are resorting to over loading.

Even lorries  of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Kerala registration were transporting sand illegally within Karnataka, he alleged and sought steps to end this practice.

Chowta also urged steps to allow sand loading 24 hours in Mangaluru harbour where it is restricted after  7 pm.

He also stated that lorry owners would resort to a protest if the demands are not fulfilled.
