Mangalore, July 11, 2011: Ashwini Akkunji, who won gold medals in the Commonwealth Games and Asian Games held recently, has failed the second dope test too as her B samples have been found positive for performance-enhancing drugs.

Along with Ashwini, Priyanka Pawar too has tested positive. Both stars now face a two-year ban, which means that Ashwini might have to bid good-bye to the London Olympics.

M. L. Dogra, the director of Athletics Federation of India, said that the federation has received documents from the NADA that the B samples of both Priyanka and Ashwini have tested positive for the same anabolic steroids found in their A sample.

The two athletes have been suspended at present; they might be banned for two years after the National Anti Doping Agency hears the case.

If Ashwini is banned for two years, she will not only miss the London Olympics, but also the World Championships in Daegue, South Korea.

Corporation Bank, which has its headquarters in Mangalore, had recently withdrawn all its advertisements featuring Ashwini, who the bank had appointed as its brand ambassador in recognition of her achievements. Since her B sample has also tested positive, it remains to be seen whether Ashwini will be allowed to continue her services at the bank.
