Art of clay modelling for overseas students at Palimar

Mangaluru, Sep 5,2017: Students from Lancaster University, England, were congregated at the Chitralaya Art Gallery at Palimar near Padubidri in the district and studied the art of clay modeling, as a part of their study tour programme, on cultural exchange.

A team of 24 students, led by Georgia and Danial, also tried their hands in clay modeling under the direction of artist Venki Palimar, who demonstrated the art.  The students also visited Hasta Shilpa Art Village, Manipal, Sri Krishna Temple, Udupi, Puttige Mutt, Hiriyadka, Pajaka Kshetra, Moodbidri Jain Mutt and Jain Basadis at Karkala.

They also studied the cultural aspects such as Bharatanatyam, coastal dishes and others.  The foreign students also visited Horanadu Kshetra on the way to Goa. The team members said that they will visit the Manipal University campus in Jaipur, Rajasthan, too.

Artist Venki appreciated the enthusiasm of the students who came to the rural place and mastered the art of clay modeling.  Manipal University European Study Centre’s Programme coordinator Pooja Badiger said that the students will visit various places in  September. They have already visited Namma Bhoomi in Kundapur and Gaushala in Neelavara.

Manipal Institute of Technology assistant professor Pravin Shetty, environmentalist Balaram Bhat, Manipal University Press chief executive Revathi Nadiger and Palimar Gram Panchayat member Gayatri Prabhu were present.
