Udupi, Mar 10 2018: The Special Court in Bengaluru which deals with land encroachment cases has issued an arrest warrant against Udupi Deputy Commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis.
It has been gathered that failure on the part of the Deputy Commissioner to furnish a report to the court on the action taken with regard to clearing the encroachment of government lands including lakes, has led to this arrest warrant.
Udupi SP Lakshman B Nimbaragi has informed that the warrant was received by his office from the IGP Office and the same has been sent to the DC through the Manipal Police. She has to furnish a bond of Rs 10,000 and has to appear before the Court, said Nimbaragi.
DC reacts : Reacting to the arrest warrant issued against her, DC Priyanka Mary Francis said "Though we have filed complaints in the local court regarding the illegal encroachment, warrant has been issued for the reason that the cases have not been transferred to the special court. This is due to the negligence of Tahsildars. I have not received any summons earlier. However, now a warrant has been issued." She also stated that she will appear before the court on March 13.
