Army recruitment rally in Vijayapura from May 12

Mangaluru, Mar 07, 2017:The annual Army Recruitment Rally in 11 districts, including Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Uttara Kannada and Chikkamagaluru, will be held from May 12 to 18 at Sainik School, Vijayapura.

Addressing reporters on Monday, Col Prashant Petkar, director, Army Recruiting Office, Mangaluru, said Dakshina Kannada in particular has a poor record of recruitment, but also hoped that the number of aspirants from Dakshina Kannada and the surrounding districts increases this time. “When the rally was conducted in 2016, a meagre 34 had enrolled, while in 2015, it was 134. Both figures are still less, when compared to the population of the district,” said the colonel.

Petkar, however, said the only solace is at Haliyala in Uttara Kannada. He described it as ‘a bright spot’, as 800 were recruited against 1,800 in total who had enrolled from the region during the rally held in June at Davangere.

The recruitment rally is open for candidates from Bagalkot, Dharwad, Gadag, Haveri, Davangere,Vijayapura, and Shivamogga districts too.

Two months’ time
With two months left for the rally to commence, the colonel wanted aspiring unmarried youth to grab the opportunity and prepare for physical and written tests. The candidates should register online at www.joinindianarmy.nic.in once the registration opens, from March 12 up to March 25.

Giving details on category-wise recruitments and eligibility for the same, Petkar said, “The recruitments will be conducted for the posts of soldier general (duty and technical), followed by nursing assistant, clerk and store-keeper (technical and tradesmen). While the minimum qualification for general duty and tradesmen is SSLC, the candidates should be in the age group of 17-and-a-half to 21 years for general duty and up to 23 years for tradesmen. For other posts, the minimum qualification is PU or any other equivalent course, having studied Physics, Chemistry, Maths and English or Accounts and Book-keeping.”

Three-level
The recruitments will be conducted in three levels – physical fitness tests and measures where the candidates have to run 1.6 km in 5.30 minutes, followed by medical exam and written exam.

When reporters sought to know about precautionary measures taken in the wake of the recent Army recruitment racket busted by Thane police in Maharashtra, Petkar claimed that the Army has been taking stringent measures to ensure a foolproof system, but called upon the people to be wary of middlemen.
