The theives gained entry into the house by breaking open 2 doors at the rear of the house. They woke up the residents and tied them up with a sari, after which they proceeded to break open and ransack the contents of a couple of almirahs in the house. They decamped with Rs 3 lakhs, jewelry worth Rs 4 lakhs, a mobile phone belonging to Mr. Shetty, and a white Honda City car parked in front of the house. All this was done within half an hour.

Later, Mrs. Shetty managed to set herself free and untied the rest of the family. Mr. Shetty immediately alerted the police. In spite of the fact that the police set up blocks in strategic areas, the gang managed to escape.

Mr. Shetty told the police that, although the theives knew Kannada, they conversed only in Hindi. They also seemed aware of the fact that Mr. Shetty had withdrawn a large sum of money from the bank on Tuesday.

A case has been registered and Panambur Deputy Superintendent of Police Girish, Suratkal Police Inspector K U Belliappa, Sub-inspector Ramesh, and other police officers visited the residence of the Shettys. Investigation is now on.
