Aquaculture, fish interest visitors at Fisheries College, expo

Mangaluru, Dec 19, 2018: Students from over 40 schools and colleges visited the exhibition held as a part of golden jubilee celebrations of Fisheries College in Mangaluru.

Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management Principal Dr Srinivas Rao after inaugurating the stalls set up by Krishi Vigyan Kendra lauded his efforts for creating an awareness among farmers on farming activities.

College Dean, Dr H Shivanandamurthy said that the fisheries College in association with Krishi Vigyan Kendra will organise an interaction of farmers with scientists at Fisheries College. The interaction will discuss on pisciculture and farming. Along with Fisheries College staff, scientists from Krishi Vigyan Kendra, officials from fisheries department and Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute will take part.

He said that it will also discuss on how pisciculture has improved the income of farmers.

Krishi Vigyan Kendra head Dr A T Ramachandra said the interaction will introduce farmers to new technology with various species of fish, fish products, modern practices in aquaculture and rearing fish in aquarium.

Vice Chancellor of Mangalore University, Dr Ishwara was also present. The stalls put up by the Fisheries College on aquaculture grabbed the attention of the onlookers. There were other stalls on management of marine resources, processing fish, health of fish, fisheries engineering set up by  Karnataka Fisheries Development Corporation, Marine Products Export Development Authority and others. Aquarium gallery attracted a lot of attention.
