Aqua Aquaria India 2017 inaugurated by Minister Pramod Madhwaraj

Mangaluru, May 14, 2017: State Minister for Fisheries, Youth Services, Sports and Youth Empowerment Pramod Madhwaraj inaugurated the fourth edition of the Aqua Aquaria India 2017 (AAI)  at the Nehru Maidan here on May 14, Sunday.  This is the first such event to be organised in the city by the Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA), a nodal agency of the union ministry of commerce and industry dealing with promotion of marine products export and allied activities."Diversification in sustainable aquaculture" is main theme of the event.

Speaking on the occasion, Madhwaraj said   there was vast scope as well as ample opportunities for aquaculture and ornamental fish culture in the state which has a 320 km long coastline and also  inland water resources spread over 5.65 lakh hectares.

He also hoped that the event would be a great boost for promotion of aquaculture in the region.

Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel in his address stressed the need for further research  in the field of fisheries.

JR Lobo, MLA of Mangaluru South also spoke. Jayatilak, Chairman of the Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA, Dr Supreetha, Assistant Professor of Fisheries College and others were present.
