Appendix problem, Filipino moved from ship to hospital, off Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Apr 12 2019: A crew member of a foreign vessel, who was suffering from abdominal pain, was evacuated from the ship on April 11, Thursday and is now recovering in a private hospital in the city.

The ship, MV Broog, was sailing from Ras Laffan, Qatar to Futussu, Japan, with LNG in its cargo. Three hundred  nautical miles from the Mangaluru coast, the ship’s captain Wilfreo A Sales,  sent an email to Coastguard headquarters in Panambur, requesting medical repatriation of an able seaman (AS), who was suffering from an inflamed appendix.

Sources in GAC Shipping (India) Private Limited, which is the local agent for foreign ship from Japan, said on  that the Coast Guard, New Mangalore Port Trust’s Deputy conservator, Traffic Manager, Harbour Master, Customs and Immigration Department swung into action and succeeded in the swift evacuation of Regoita Arwen A, who is a Filipino.

Sources in GAC shipping said the inflamed appendix was operated successfully and the patient was recovering. The ship later sailed for Japan.
