Another school vehicle tragedy: 2 kids lose lives, 10 injured in Chikkamagaluru

Chikkamagaluru, Aug 5, 2016 : Even before the Trasi school van tragedy that crushed to death seven tender lives, is still afresh in public minds, there has been another school bus tragedy -this time in Chikkamagaluru.

Two LKG students lost their lives while ten other students sustained injuries when their school bus overturned  after its tyres got stuck in the roadside slush  at Hebbur near Narayanapura  of Tarikere taluk in Chikkamagaluru on August 4, Thursday evening. The accident took place when the students were  on way home from  the Sandeepani Public School of Hanne village.

 The deceased students have been identified as Preetham and Chaya.  Preetham was the son of Poornima and Pramod couple of Hirenallur village and died on the spot after the road of the bus hit his head. The seriously injured were shifted to a hospital in Shivamogga while those who sustained minor injuries were treated at the Primary Health Centre at Ajjampura.

Sources said the mishap took place when the driver of the bus  took the  bus to the extreme end of the road in order to give way for another bus from the opposite direction. School bags, tiffin boxes and water bottles of the students were scattered on the road, standing mute witness to the horrific  accident.

Locals who rushed to the spot helped in the rescue operations. Satyavathi G, Deputy Commissioner of Chikkamagaluru inspected the accident spot and also visited the hospital and consoled the grieving parents.

Ajjampura police have registered a case.
