Annual Feast of St Lawrence Church, Attur from Jan 26 - 28

Mangalore, Jan, 26: The annual feast of St. Lawrence Church, located in Attur in Karkala, will be celebrated from Jan 26 - 28, 2010.

Popularly known as the “Attur Santmari,” this festival is widely acclaimed by people of all religions, castes, and communities. People universally believe in St. Lawrence’s power to grant boons and bestow favors. Thousands of devotees from far and near arrive at Attur to worship St Lawrence with flowers and candles and to beg him to intercede with the Lord in their favor.

The 3-day festival will be celebrated with 28 masses. Special masses will be celebrated with the bishops of Karwar Diocese and Mangalore Diocese as the main celebrants. Masses in Kannada will also be celebrated. On Thursday, the feast of the patron saint will be celebrated.

The celebrations are being guided by Fr. John D’Silva, the vice president of the parish council, and Fr. Arthur Pereira, the priest of St. Lawrence Church.
