Annappa’s pathetic tale turns out to be a bundle of lies

Belthangady, Jan 14, 2015:  If everyone sympathised with 30 year old Annappa recently after he narrated his tale of woes, as to how he was abandoned and tortured by his very own father by giving him electric shocks, now things have taken a different turn with police gathering information that Annappa had only lied.

As already reported, Annappa who had arrived at Dharmasthala with a group of Shabarimale pilgrims  was found to be dumb and he complained of torture by his family. When the matter was brought to the notice of Dharmadhikari, he asked the pilgrims to inform the police.

Accordingly, Annappa was handed over to the custody of the police and he had managed to hoodwink the cops with his ‘pathetic’ tale that  he was from Shantinagar in Aldur of Chikkamagaluru taluk and  his father who had remarried after his mother’s demise was torturing him and gave him electric shocks leaving him dumb. He had also told the police that he was abandoned by his family in Shabarimale.

However, the police  had struggled for two days to locate his whereabouts and it was  when cops could lay hands on a telephone number of Annappa’s sister that the truth came out. His sister said Annappa was not dumb but knew seven languages including Kannada, English, Tulu, Telugu and Tamil and that he was the son of Raju Gowda from Guddethota in Shringeri. It is now learnt that he was penniless and enacted the drama to gain sympathy.

The police, it is learnt have left Annappa free without taking any action against him for taking them on a ride.
