Alva’s Nudisiri: Krishisiri, science expo thrills students

Moodbidri, Dec 3, 2017: In view of promoting and building scientific temper among the students, Vijnana Siri was organised as part of Alva’s Nudisiri 2017.

A model from the ISRO, 70 science models from Agastya Science Foundation, 18 models prepared by Alva’s Engineering College students and four models prepared by Alva’s High School students enthralled the visitors. Several schoolchildren along with their science teachers visited Vijnana Siri on Dec 2, Saturday.

There was good response for Krishisiri as well. There was demonstration on jaggery making, blacksmith’s work and others. The vegetables cultivated on a two-acre-land opened peoples eyes to organic farming.

Kambala buffaloes were another attraction at the Krishisiri. The buffaloes were decked with “Nethibal” and “Karigonde” on the occasion.

In the Kambala buffaloes beauty contest, “Kutti Kudradi” pair of buffaloes belonging to Kolake Irvathooru Bhaskar Subbaiah Kotian won first place with a cash prize of Rs 50,000 while Hosabettu Gopalakrishna Bhat’s buffalo pair “Kunha kaja” won second place with a cash prize of Rs 30,000.

In Kambala riders’ beauty contest, Kolake Irvathooru Anand won first place while Shankar Valpady won second place.

Udyogasiri:  Udyogasiri will be held today Dec 3, Sunday for those who have studied in Kannada medium upto 10th standard. Over 100 firms are likely to take part.  The visitors are also given free health camp. Naturopathy, Yoga, acupressure and the like were introduced to them.

A total of 36,482 delegates have registered for Alva’s Nudisiri by paying a fee of Rs 100. This includes 34,055 from Karnataka, 2,477 from outside the state.

Ornamental fish:  An exhibition of ornamental fish was a part of Alva’s Nudisiri. Karthik who was rearing fish as a student has made it a profession. He has been rearing marine fish as well. Thar, crayfish, crab, lobster and others were on display. Karthik has also been engaged in training in fish rearing for interested youths.

Bonsai Display: Govinda Raju, a bonsai master from Hyderabad who is an expert and international award winner in the field of Bonsai, exhibited his Bonsai collection. He has been engaged in the art of Bonsai for the last 30 years. He said that he spends at least 8 to 10 hours in a day to nurture bonsai plants.
