Alva’s Nudisiri Awards conferred on 10 Kannada achievers

Moodbidri, Nov. 14, 2011: Alva’s Nudisiri Awards were conferred on 10 Kannada achievers at the valedictory ceremony of Alva’s Nudisiri on Nov 13 Sunday.

Delivering the valedictory address, Chandrashekar Kambar, the renowned Kannada writer and Jnanapith Award winner, said that making collective efforts to enrich Kannada language, literature, and culture to conserve its intellectual wealth is the need of the hour. Alva’s Nudisiri has contributed greatly for this, he added.

Speaking of the ability of Indian culture and heritage to act as a guiding force for the entire world, Kambar said that the influence of the English language ought to be curbed. Lamenting that Kannada poets have been overcome by corporate culture, he expressed hopes that those who are completely dedicated to Kannada will be able to enrich it in future. He also urged the government to extend financial support to Alva’s Nudisiri.

Dr. M. M. Kalburgi, the president of the event, said that the discussions, interactive sessions, and debates held during the Nudisiri were greatly satisfying.

Dr. M. Mohan Alva, the chairman of Alva’s Education Foundation, delivered the introductory address, in which he stated that he will hold the 10th anniversary celebrations of Nudisiri on a global scale. He also urged people to support World Alva’s Nudisiri in a big way.

Nudisiri Awards Conferred
The Nudisiri Awards were conferred on 10 Kannada achievers, who were brought to the dais in a procession accompanied by traditional music.

The award winners were Nadoja K. S., Nisar Ahmed, journalist M. V. Kamath, Prof. Chandrashekar Patil, Dr. B. T. Lalitha Nayak, B. K. Sumitra, Machar Gopal Naik, and Padavapura Anke Gowda.

In his address after receiving the award, nonagenarian journalist Dr. M. V. Kamath said that he still remembers the Kannada that he learned in childhood although he was an English medium student. Lauding Alva’s Nudisiri, he said that it promotes Kannada language and culture in a big way.

MLA Abhayachandra Jain, Jayashree Amaranath Shetty, and MLC Captain Ganesh Karnik were the dignitaries on the dais.
