All support against monsoon calamity planned : DK DC

Mangaluru, May 09, 2019: Addressing officials at the monsoon preparatory meeting held at Netravathy Hall in Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat office, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team will be deployed in Dakshina Kannada before the onset of monsoon, Principal Secretary (Disaster Management) in Revenue Department Rajkumar Khatri said.

He assured that state government would provide all assistance to tackle any natural calamity likely occur during the Southwest monsoon.  Lauding the DK DC for the precautionary measures taken, Khatri urged all departments to work in coordination.

He lauded fire service and emergency department personnel for their preparedness to tackle any eventuality that might occur during the monsoon. “A meeting of the officials from NHAI and National Highway will be held in Bengaluru shortly. A report on the measures taken by them to face the monsoon will be given to DCs.”

Home Secretary Umesh Kumar said NHAI and PWD officials should conduct a survey of landslide-prone areas in order to take precautionary measures to check possible landslides during monsoon. “Modern technology is available to manage the natural disaster. The officials should make use of it.”

Regional Commissioner  T K Anil Kumar said the public should be informed about the precautionary measures taken in flood-affected areas. “Silt from all the the stormwater drains should be removed to avoid artificial flooding in urban areas.”

Meteorological Department Director Dr Srinivasayya urged the officials to create awareness on “Sidilu” app among the people to get a forecast on the lightning and thunder in a particular area. It will also forecast on the rain and weather.

IGP (Western range) Arun Chakravarthy said measures had been taken to work in coordination with the district administration.

DK DC Sasikanth Senthil S spoke on scientific and technical measures taken to tackle natural calamity.

Rain hazards preparedness of Officials :   DK DC Sasikanth Senthil has directed district-level officers to get ready to tackle natural calamity in the district and prepare programmes at the tahsildar level to tackle the situation.

Chairing a meeting, he said a district-level control room has already been set up. Teams should be constituted to take up emergency works during the onsoon, he advised.

DC Senthil said all the officials should work in coordination. A taluk-level team, comprising officials from Fire and Emergency Services, Police Departments and officials should be constituted. These officials should be well prepared for the eventualities that might occur following flood, landslides and sea erosion, he said.

The DK DC directed the officers of Mangaluru City Corporation and urban local body to clear the stormwater drains to facilitate the easy flow of rainwater and also check artificial flooding. There is no restriction for inviting tender to take up the work on desilting of stormwater drains, he clarified.

DC  directed Tahsildars, DDPI and BEOs to declare holiday for schools keeping in mind the safety of children during heavy rain.

Fire and Emergency Services Department personnel said that the department is all ready to tackle the monsoon by keeping all the equipment intact.

Dakshina Kannada Indian Red Cross Society Honorary Secretary Prabhakar Sharma said the Red Cross Society, with its 100 volunteers, will be available for the district administration at any time.
