All pending cases relating to sexual assaults will be disposed in a year : Law Minister Jayachandra

Mangaluru, Nov 11, 2014:  State Minister for law and Parliamentary Affairs T.B. Jayachandra has said that a total of 1292 cases relating to sexual assaults and murders  are pending hearing in the state and assured steps to dispose all cases within a year and ensure justice to the victims.

Speaking to reporters at the District Congress office in the city on November 11, Tuesday  the minister said out of the total 1573 cases, 281 have been  disposed.

Stating that the state government was strongly in favour of capital punishment to rapists, he said fast track courts have been set up to especially to deal with cases of sexual assaults to ensure strict punishment to the guilty.

Referring to allegations of irregularities in government managed temple, he said all out efforts are made to check such irregularities.

B Ramanatha Rai, District in-charge Minister who also spoke, while referring to the Thirthahalli case and the clamour raised by the BJP, said the very same party did not protest when Sowjanya was raped and murdered during the BJP regime in the state.

Kodijal Ibrahim, Interim President of District Congress, Ivan D’Souza, MLC, Kavitha, Deputy Mayor, Shashidhar Hegde, former mayor and others were present.
