All medical establishments must display licences - U T Khader

Manipal, Jun 2, 2014: Karnataka Health and Family Welfare Minister U T Khader, made it clear all medical establishments - Hospitals and private clinics etc.-  must display  official licences at the entrance as done in general. This has become necessary due to hundreds of complaints about fake and unqualified doctors and their antecedents in recent times.


ut khader 1utkhaderThe minister informed, the government will amend the Karnataka Private Medical Establishment Act, 2007, to make it mandatory for all private clinics/hospitals to display licences issued by the Karnataka Medical Establishment Board.

So far, 1,980 cases of fake doctors have been cited. In Gulbarga 294 cases have surfaced. Notices have been issued to 1,819 and FIRs registered against 161. In Koppal, the figure stands at 196, followed by Bijapur (195), Gadag (161) and Shimoga (151). In Bangalore, 13 such cases have been reported of which FIRs have been filed against two.

At present the norms stipulate all medical institutions have to display licences for the information of the public in a prominent manner. The new guidelines will help improve the situation. The public must take a careful look at this aspect of legality.
