Speaking to reporters at the District Congress Office on August 29, Saturday, Poojary   said a former Congress chief minister as well as a former BJP chief minister DV Sadananda Gowda were responsible for giving a go ahead for the project  by staking the interests of the people of the district. By  saying a ‘former Congress Chief Minister’ Poojary was apparently referring to  M Veerappa Moily considered to be his arch political rival.

Stating that the project if implemented would be disastrous for the district, Poojary cited the example  wherein the Colarado river in America was diverted by building a dam, resulting in the drying of the river.  Farming too was affected due  to the scarcity of water and the authorities who realised their mistake had to demolish the dam, he said.  He said the same was the case in Kerala and Tamil Nadu which too had decided to divert three west flowing rivers but met with failure.

There would be absolute water scarcity and framers will   be thrown to the streets if the Yettinahole project is implemented. Even hydro power generation will be affected, he added.

With Mangaluru likely to be developed into a Smart city, the need for water increases and the Yettinahole Project may only add to the problems, he said.

The Patel community protests in Gujarat demanding reservation has only exposed  Modi’s lies, Poojary said. Poojary also lashed out at right wing activists over the Attavar moral policing incident and lauded the Commissioner for arresting the accused. He also appealed to the Commissioner to identify those  who were actually behind the incident and demanded that Goonda Act be invoked against the culprits.

Former mayor Mahabala Marla, Corporator Deepak Poojary and others were present.
