All dams should have maximum storage level water by Dec 10: DC Jagadeesha

Mangaluru, Nov 6, 2016: In a bid to avert water crisis  in the city and other parts of the district during the coming monsoons, Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner has instructed the authorities concerned to ensure that all government as well as private dams in the district have maximum  storage level water by December 10. The DC has also imposed restrictions on hydro-power units from using the stored water during the coming summer season. This move has been made in the backdrop of the severe water crisis that had affected the city in May this year.

The above instructions were issued during a meeting which was chaired by Deputy Commissioner KG Jagadeesha. The DC also made it clear that private companies will be allowed to generate power only when there additional inflow of water during summer season.

Here it may be mentioned that there are a total of 220 vented dams in the district.

The DC has also instructed MRPL and MCF to ensure that annual maintenance shutdown is rescheduled to April. He stated that in the event of emergency the administration will take over all private water sources.
