Akshaya Patra Foundation gives free food to patients’ attendees

Mangaluru, June 06, 2020:   “Now, I need not fast or go in search of food. By having meals here in the hospital I can spend more time taking care to my daughter,” said Viraja from Nelyadi.

Most attendees taking care of their pregnant daughters or daughter-in-laws echoed simiar views during the launch of The Akshaya Patra Foundation’s free lunch and dinner initiative to the attendees of patients admitted to Lady Goschen Materity hospital.

Well known senior Pediatrician Dr U V Shenoy from Lady Goschen Hospital said pregnant women and new born babies deserve more attention.

“Free lunch and dinner are also provided to frontline workers, who are like attendees to the pregnant women and new born babies,” Dr Shenoy stressed.

President of The Akahaya Patra Foundation and ISKCON Karunya Sagar Dasa said, “We are privileged to serve the most deserving people and we look forward to serving more such people in Dakshina Kannada district.”

Inaugurating the campaign, he also thanked Micron Technology for sponsoring 25,000 meals.

Subraya Bhat of MRPL (CSR head) was also present. Officials recollected with gratitude on how MRPL had contributed Rs 30 cr to help government build a new maternity block and state-of-the-art NIC (Neo Natal Intensive Care unit).

Around 20 employees from the foundation are involved in the process of procuring, cooking, transporting, serving and cleaning.

The lunch and dinner served to attendees, included boiled rice, sambar, sabji and pickle.

The Akshaya Patra Foundation during the lockdown had distributed three lakh meals quantity of ration packets to migrant workers and local labourers in the district
