Aged lady in ICU: AC orders ’adopted son’ to be responsible for bills and care

Mangaluru, July 21, 2016: DK Assistant Commissioner Dr Ashok visited the 92-year-old Alice D’Souza in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Global Hospital on July 18 and recorded her statements.

A report appeared recently on this website and press on this case,  Looking at the serious condition of the old lady, the assistant commissioner posted the case on July 20.  Arun Kumar, D’Souza’s adopted son, and Senior Citizen’s Helpline representatives appeared at the court.

Arun Kumar- who had registered the apartment belonging to D’Souza in his name - without the knowledge of Alice D’Souza- agreed that he had registered the apartment in his name. After hearing the case, the assistant commissioner ordered Arun Kumar to pay all the hospital bills and also to look after the old lady, for which Kumar agreed.

The assistant commissioner also warned that, in case Kumar failed to pay the bills, he would cancel the registration of the apartment and register the same in the name of Alice D’Souza.

Subsequently, Kumar went to Global hospital and told the doctors that he would pay the hospital bills of Alice D’Souza, who had been admitted by her neighbours after they learnt about her sufferings.
