Mangaluru Jun 20, 2016: In an act worth emulation, a lady Home Guard along with an autorickshaw driver and a local resident took up the task of filling potholes near the Bendorewell Circle in Mangaluru on June 19, Sunday.
They embarked upon this task after being fed up with the several potholes on the road that led to an accident which left two bike riders injured on Saturday.
Stones were brought in a tempo and with the help of Home Guard Rekha, driver Boobanna and Pradeep, the potholes were filled. In fact the dug up pieces from the SCS Hospital road which is now upgraded into a concrete road were used by them to fill the potholes.
An accident on Saturday wherein the stone in a pothole hit the glass of a shop just as the vehicle of the two-wheeler got stuck in it, had resulted in injuries to two riders.
If Rekha has been regulating traffic on the busy circle since the past few days, even auto driver Boobanna used to assist the traffic cops during peak hours.
The works of the three were appreciated by locals as well as Traffic ACP Udaya Nayak. The three were also felicitated on behalf of Mangalore East Traffic Police after photos of their noble deed were circulated on social media.
