Mangaluru, Aug 12, 2016: The advocate representing the murdered businessman Bhaskar Shetty’s mother, Gulabi Shetty; M. Shantharam Shetty,  said here on Aug 11, yesterday, that the main FIR, entire First Information Report registered in Bhaskar Shetty’s murder case submitted was weak.

Advocate Shantharam Shetty and other advocate, Shashikanth Shetty, will be helping the Public Prosecutor in this case on the request of Gulabi Shetty.

Addressing media, Adv Shantharam Shetty said that the entire FIR had been written in such a manner by the previous Investigation Officer as if it was intended to protect the accused in the Bhaskar Shetty case. He questioned the manner in which the FIR was written. The FIR had limited the number of accused to only three persons — Rajeshwari, Navneet and Niranjan Bhat.

Adv. Shantharam Shetty said that a person who wrote the FIR ideally should not become the Investigation Officer in the case. But here, Manipal Inspector of Police S.V. Girish had written the FIR and had then become the Investigation Officer of the case. But, the Investigation Officer had now been changed and the Assistant Superintendent of Police, D.P. Suman, had been made the Investigation Officer. However, this was her first posting as Additional Superintendent of Police, her experience was limited, he said.

“If proper investigation has to be done to this case, then the former Superintendent of Police, K. Annamalai, should be appointed as the Investigation Officer. He has far better grasp of local conditions and has solved many complex cases,” he said.

Bhaskar Shetty hailed from a middle class family in Shankarpura village of Udupi district.  One among the seven children of late Sheenappa and Gulabi Shetty, Bhaskar Shetty studied up to Class 10 and went to Mumbai during his youth, where he worked as a mechanic.

With the help of a friend, he went to Saudi Arabia in 1985 where he struck big and owned a dozen supermarkets in Al-Hasa. In the meantime, he also purchased properties in Udupi and became very rich.
