Mangaluru, Feb 05, 2018 : Veteran writer Saara Aboobakker and actress Vinaya Prasad were felicitated by conferring them the Abbakka Award at the valedictory function of the two-day Abbakka Utsav 2017-18 organised by the DK District Administration, Department of Kannada and Culture and Abbakka Utsav Samithi at Kolya on February 4, Sunday.
Speaking after conferring the Awards, State Minister for Kannada and Culture, Women and Child Welfare and Senior Citizens’ Empowerment Umashree said the society should remember the valiant queen Abbakka by treating everyone with love and respect and by promoting harmony in the society.
Speaking on the occasion, State Minister for Food and Civil Supplies U T Khader said an Abbakka Bhavan would be constructed at the district level at a cost of Rs 2 crores.
Former Lokayukta Justice Santosh Hegde suggested that it would be better to name Mangalore University after Abbakka.
In her address, Saara Aboobakker said the achievement of Rani Abbakka who gave sleepless nights to the Portuguese looks like a miracle now.
Speaking after receiving the Award, Vinaya Prasad said Abbakka should serve as an inspiration to all.
