Aadhaar cardMangaluru, Dec 25, 2016: UT Khader, minister for food and civil supplies and consumer affairs on Dec 24, Saturday directed deputy commissioners across Karnataka to complete the process of linking ration cards with Aadhaar numbers of card holders on or before December 31. The department of food and civil supplies should expedite the Aadhaar seeding process with assistance from other government departments in general and revenue department in particular, Khader noted.

Addressing deputy commissioners via video-conferencing from the office of deputy commissioner here on Saturday, Khader said problems in Aadhar seeding has cropped in cases where the Aadhaar card holder has shifted their residence. Such Aadhar card holders must take steps to get their Aadhar address up to date and submit the same to the department, he said, adding this will enable the department too to meet the target date set for Aadhar seeding.

A nodal officer has been appointed for each district to oversee availability of free LPG connection to a priority (BPL) ration card holder under Ujjawala scheme. While the respective oil marketing companies will provide the free LPG connection, the government will provide free stove to the beneficiaries, he said directing DCs to effectively implement it. This will ensure that beneficiary households are smokeless and help them avoid potent smoke related hazards.

The department is in the alacrity of providing new ration cards to applicants. The respective revenue inspectors of wards in urban local bodies and panchayat development officers in rural areas have been appointed to oversee the process. Login ids and passwords will be created for these officials to access and distribute ration cards and dispatch the same to the card holders by way of speed post, he said, adding the process will get underway at the earliest.
