ACSA members remove shirts to condemn new carryover system

Mangalore, Aug 11, 2012 : The All College Students Association (ACSA), on August 11, Saturday, organized a semi-nude rally in protest against the changes in the carryover system for polytechnic courses. The protestors walked shirtless from Jyothi Circle to the DC’s office.

 

 

In his protest address, Dinakar Shetty, member of ACSA, said that the government recently issued a circular to make certain changes in the existing carryover system for polytechnic courses. According to this circular dated July 23, a student who fails more than 8 subjects cannot be admitted to the next academic year. Similarly, students who fail over 4 subjects in the 2012 – 13 batch cannot be admitted to the next year’s classes. He said that the new government policy will create a lot of problems for the students.

He urged the state government to withdraw its new policy and re-introduce the old policy, which allows students to continue their study even if they fail their subjects.

Flaying C. T. Ravi, district-in-charge minister for DK, he said that the students have been protesting against the new carryover system for the past 28 days and have also organized a 12-hour hunger strike, in spite of which the government has failed to take notice of it. He stated that C. T. Ravi must resign if he cannot solve students’ problems.

He also said that the students have submitted a memorandum to N. Yogesh Bhat, deputy speaker, and hope that he will introduce the issue in assembly.
