Mangaluru, Nov 03, 2014: The Akhila Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) staged a protest at the Ambedkar Circle in the city on November 3, Monday as part of a state wide protest to deplore the government’s ‘apathy’ in checking the rising cases of sexual atrocities on women and minors in the state. The protest was organised to also demand punitive action against the culprits in such cases.
City ABVP Secretary Jayesh P.K. who spoke on the occasion demanded that the government initiated early measures to prevent sexual abuse of women and minors. He also warned of a severe protest by the ABVP if steps were not taken in the right direction.
Chaitra, an ABVP activist and student of University College, in her address said of the 400 sexual assault cases reported during the year in the state, the victims were minors in 300 cases. She also urged for the formation of Women’s Safety Cell in all schools and colleges.
Several ABVP activists participated in the protest.
