A national Seminar on Child and Children’s Literature”organized at St Aloysius College

 Mangaluru, Mar 03, 2017 : A National seminar on “Approaches and systems: Understanding the Child and Children’s Literature”, was organized by the post graduate department of studies and research in English at St. Aloysius college on March 03, Friday. The function was held at the LCRI hall at the college premises.

The first session was graced by Dr. Anto Thomas C, Associate Professor and Head of the Research Department of English at St. Thomas College, Kerala. He was a Fulbright Fellow to the National Centre for the Study of Children’s Literature at San Diego State University, California in 2005. He was one of the keynote speakers at the 22 Biennial Congress of the International Research society for Children’s Literature held at the University of Worcester in England in August 2015.


Dr. Padma Baliga, an equally competent authority in Children’s Literature enlightened the audience. She has been in the teaching field for over 20 years. Her doctoral thesis was on gender theory and contemporary Indian Children’s Literature.  Her research and teaching interests include children’s and young adult literature, women’s studies, language pedagogy, Indian literature and Dalit writing.


Rev. Fr. Swebert. D’Silva SJ, Principal of St. Aloysius college was the Chief Guest for the event. Rev. Fr. Dionysius Vas SJ was the President.
Dr. A. Lourdusamy, Dean of the post graduate department of studies and research in English at St. Aloysius College, welcomed the gathering.

 
Four high school students read out their literary creations, thereby inaugurating the seminar in an innovative manner. The event also witnessed the book release of Feminism in Literature: Musings and aesthetics by Dr. Sunita Sinha. She is an associate lecturer in English, Women’s college Samastipur, Bihar. She has authored almost 20 books, highly acclaimed in academic circles.


The seminar aims to conduct an in depth analysis on the genre of Children’s Literature. It will posit crucial questions in that genre which is now been alternately termed as Young Adult Literature.
