A man and his mother get life sentence for murder

Mangaluru, Aug 17,2016: The First Additional District and Sessions Judge C.M. Joshi on Aug 16, Tuesday sentenced to life Parvati (60) and her son Raveesh (43) on finding them guilty of murder of her daughter-in law Saraswati (28).


murder case According to the prosecution, Raveesh suspected the fidelity of his wife Saraswati.


On February 17, 2011, Raveesh and his mother assaulted Saraswati with sharp weapons that led to her death in their house in Appedapade village near Vitla.


This was witnessed by Raveesh’s four-year-old son Rohitashwa and two other family members, the prosecution said.


On the complaint of Saraswati’s father Poovappa Nayaka, the then Circle Inspector of Bantwal Nanjundegowda arrested Raveesh and Parvati and filed a charge-sheet against the two.  Prosecutor Raju Poojary Bannadi examined 23 witnesses, including Rohitashwa, who is now nine years old. Rohitashwa recalled to the judge the act committed by his father and grandmother, but the other witnesses turned hostile.

Relying on the evidence of Rohitashwa, Judge Joshi sentenced Parvati and Raveesh to life imprisonment and directed them to pay Rs. 5,000 fine each. The judge directed the District Legal Services Authority to pay compensation under the Karnataka Victim Compensation Scheme to Rohitashwa, who is now staying with his grandfather Poovappa Nayak.
