Mangaluru, Nov 24, 2014: A major burglary attempt at the Shilpa Jewellers at Kadri in the city was foiled, thanks to a fuse blow just as the burglars were using the gas cutter to open the safe locker. The incident which is learnt to have taken place on November 23, Sunday night came to light on Monday morning.
The thieves had actually gained entry into the jewellery shop by first breaking into a nearby saloon and then drilling a big hole in the wall which separated the saloon from the jewellery house.
The thieves had almost opened the first shelf of the safe locker using a gas cutter when the fuse blew off making their attempt unsuccessful, said Narayana Achari, the owner of Shilpa Jewellers.
It has been gathered that the thief had still managed to escape with some gold. However, the value of the stolen jewels is yet to be ascertained as the locker was jammed due to the burglary attempt.
Finger print experts and canine squad has been pressed into service. Even the Mangaluru East Police are at the spot and conducting investigations.
