A day after escape of undertrials, Prisons DIG inspects Hiriadka jail

Udupi, Jan 26, 2016 : DIG (Prisons) of North Division T P Sesha visited  the Hiriadka Prison in Udupi on January 25, Monday, a day after two under trials escaped from the prison.

The DIG who inspected the jail premises, also enquired with the prison officials regarding the incident . He also felt that a security lapse was the reason for the incident.

The DIG pointed out that the lack of staff in the prison was the main reason for the escape of under trials. He also stated that the number of staff in the Udupi prison was insufficient to   monitor the 123 inmates.

The fact that two under trials were missing came to light when the  inmates who were taken out to clean the premises on January 23, at around 3 pm were  taken in after which an attendance was called. Those missing are Kumar Gosavi and Ashok alias Babu.

Search is on for the missing under trials.
