This well with a history of around 100 years was used by people of the surrounding area in the past. It was  closed during a road work  after 1962 when the city began to receive tap water supply. Despite  opposition by local residents it was closed and then a concrete slab built over it as a precautionary measure, recall some locals.

Reacting to the development,  Muhammad Nazeer, Managing Director of Mangalore Smart City Ltd, said the  works in this particular area where the well has been traced have been stopped and  discussions would be held with the local administration and other authorities regarding saving this well.

Even DK District Hotel Owners’ Association  President Kudpi Jagadish Shenoy  and  Canara Jewellers owner Dhananjaya Palke have said that they remember this well in the area which was being used by locals several years ago.
