8 arrested for ’Vijayotsava’ clash in city

Mangaluru, May 19, 2018: The city police arrested eight people on charges of rioting and assault which took place during Vijayotsava, after the Assembly election results were announced, at Adyarpadavu, on the night of May 15.


arrest.Briefing media on May 18, Friday, City Police Commissioner Vipul Kumar said the arrested are Naushad alias Naufal, Dawood alias Dawood Hakim, Junaid alias Mohammed Zunail, Shahul Hameed, Harish Poojary, Nishanth, Abhishek and Nithesh.

All the arrested have been remanded to judicial custody till May 30.

It was reported by this web site that seven people were injured in a clash which occurred between two political party workers during the Vijayotsava, at Adyarpadavu.

Further, the police commissioner said that anyone who engages in rioting and damaging the property of religious institutions will be dealt with sternly.  Following the incident on May 15, the police had registered six cases under various sections of IPC.
