
Mangaluru Aug 15, 2016: The 70th Independence day as observed with grandeur at Nehru Maidan today August 15 Monday. District in Charge Minister B Ramanath Rai hoisted the tri color flag and received guard of honor.
Delivering the Independence Day address he said that, on this eve we  must introspect about our country’s development and must strengthen our  country.
He also said that, the government had given various  people friendly schemes. Anna Bhagya was the flagship scheme for which  the state government had sanctioned Rs 44 crores annually which has seen  2 lakh 19 thousand beneficiaries, Ksheera Bhagya covered 23 lakh 92  students which will provide nutritious food and help in making hunger  Free State. Nearly 19 Lakh 46 thousand rupees have been invested for  3654 beneficiaries with Manasvani scheme.
Proposal has been sent  for Mangalore Airport runway expansion worth Rs. 96 crore and road  expansion between Maravoor bridge to Mangalore Airport, he  added.
Rai remembered the martyr who lost their lives for Indian  Independence and we should eliminate the anti-social elements in making  country strong.
He requested people to keep their environment  clean and planting the saplings to make city green and also gave a call  to the citizens to live with unity and harmony and be a responsible  citizen.
This was followed by a march past from teams from  Karnataka Reserve Police, Civil Police, Home guards, Fire Safety, Road  Safety, NCC, Scouts and guides etc.
IGP Arun Chakravarthy, DC Dr  Jagadeesh, Superintendent of Police Bhushan Borase, MLC Ivan D’Souza,  MLA Mohiudden Bhava, MLA JR Lobo, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, Mayor Harinath, ZP CEO Sri  Vidya and others were present.
