Mangaluru, Jan 26, 2018: The 69th Republic Day was celebrated on a grand note at the Nehru Maidan in Mangaluru on January 26, Friday with Dakshina Kannada District in-charge Minister B Ramanatha Rai unfurling the national tricolour and receiving the guard of honour.
An attractive march past was presented by the KSRP contingent, armed reserve police team, civil police team, Home Guards, women’s police contingent, NCC, Bala Seva Dal and Rovers and Rangers.
In his Republic Day address, the minister stressed the need for peace and harmony in the district and also reiterated that the State Government would always strive towards the well being of the masses.
He elaborated on the various pro-people programmes of the state government and added that Anna Bhagya, Ksheera Bhagya, Vidyasiri and Manaswini schemes have touched the lives of the poor.
He said a total of Rs 295.65 crores of farm loans have been waived in the district and the same has benefitted a total of 65,518 people.
As many as 33 government hospitals and health centres in the district have been provided new buildings in the district, he added.
On this occasion, outstanding personalities were conferred with Sarvottam Seva Awards.
