5800 acres set aside for Dalit development - DC Subodh Yadav

Mangalore, April 17: DC Subodh Yadav said that all land that rightfully belongs to Dalits, but was snatched away from them by rich and influential people, should be handed back to them. He added that the district administration will acquire such land and will return it to the Dalits.

He was speaking at the 120th birth anniversary celebrations of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, organized by the Karnataka Dalit Sangharsha Samithi, on April 17, Mangalore.

Revealing further details, he said that around 5,800 acres have been used for various Dalit development projects, adding that 367 acres was earmarked to provide houses for Dalits and that 24 acres was recently handed over to the Dalits by Assistant Commissioner Prabhakar Sharma. He also said that the district administration has already agreed to provide 2 acres for the construction of Ambedkar Bhawan near Urwa Market.

Books were also distributed among deserving Dalit students on the occasion.

DSS State Convener Rohitaksha, DSS DK District Convener SP Anand, Mayor Praveen Anchan, and others were also present.
