50 students from govt. schools among the first to watch movie on schools

Mangaluru, Aug 24, 2018: As many as 50 students from two Government Higher Primary Schools in Manglauru were among the first to watch the new Kannada film, Government Hiriya Prathamika Shaale, Kasaragod, Krupe Rammanna Rai, here on Thursday.

The premiere of the new film of Rishab Shetty Films was held at two screens in Big Cinemas on Thursday. The film is being released in 70 cinema houses across the State on Friday.

Rishab Shetty Films invited students of Government Higher Primary Schools of Madur and Pilar for the movie at Big Cinemas. These 50 students were accompanied by a few teachers of the school.

The film on closure of Kannada medium schools and the children’s fight to save them was shot at the old Government Higher Primary School in Kairangala in Bantwal taluk.

As shown in the movie, the Government School in Kairangala also faces the threat of closure as the number of students are coming down.

“This school, which once had around 500 students, now has around 25 students. The School Development and Monitoring Committee are concerned over the drop in the number and are working out ways to improve the numbers,” said an Education Department official.

While the school has spacious 15 classrooms it only has two teachers, The onset of many private schools in the vicinity, which offer English medium education, has led to drastic drop in the number of students in the Kairangala school, the official said.

The school has planned to screen the film for the students. “This will boost the confidence of children and their parents. We hope this movie helps in the revival of the school,” the official added.

Police Commissioner T.R. Suresh. Mayor Bhaskar K. and Education Officer and In-charge Deputy Director of Public Instruction M.P. Jnanesh attended the formal function of the screening.

Among the several child actors who were present for the film screening included Saptha Pavoor, the Class 7 student from Lourdes Central School, who has played the role of Pallavi in the film. The other actors present during the screening included Prakash Thuminad, Pradeep Alva Kadri, Laxman Kumar Mallur and Shaniel Guru, who is also the Assistant Director of the film.
