5 new Covid-19 cases surface in Dakshina Kannada, 21 in Udupi

Mangaluru/Udupi, Jun 14, 2020: Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts reported five and 21 new cases of the novel coronavirus, respectively, on Sunday, June 14, 2020.

The five cases reported in Dakshina Kannada includes three Saudi returnees, one Maharashtra returnee and a 12-year-old boy who happens to be in the contact of a patient. All of them have been admitted to the designated district hospital, health officials said.

As reported earlier a 26-year-old youth, who had returned from Maharashtra recently died at a private hospital in Dakshina Kannada, taking the district death toll to 8.

Seven patients were recovered and discharged on Sunday. With this the total positive cases in the district rose to 276, including 10 persons from other districts. As many as 153 persons have been discharged and eight deaths have occurred so far.

Udupi district has reported 21 positive cases on Sunday. 18 of them Maharashtra returnees, one each from Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh and one patient who contracted the infection from P-5667 who was tested positive on June 8. Now, the district has a total of 1025 cases with 235 still being treated at the designated hospitals. The district has reported only one COVID-19 fatality.
