37,999 apply for free LPG connection in Udupi

Udupi, April 17, 2015: As per CSR policies, corporate companies are committed to provide one percent of their profit towards social works. Accordingly, government had chalked out a programme to provide free LPG connections to BPL families, with the assistance of oil companies.


 37,999 apply for free LPG connection in Udupi


The programme has been brought to effect in many districts.  37,999 applications have been submitted towards CSR initiativee by oil companies to provide free LPG connections for BPL families. So far 12,472 have been provided with free LPG connections and the rest are waiting their turn. 

 Udupi residents are enthusiastic of the programme with 37,999 applying for the same. BPL families have applied to agencies of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation, Indian Oil Corporation and Bharath Petroleum Corporation.  So far, free connections have been made available to 12,472 while 25,527 are yet to be given with the facility.  The cost of a cylinder, which comes up to Rs 1,600 will be borne by the companies. Gas stove and other necessary equipment should be purchased by the applicants.

The scheme intends to profit customer, the government and oil companies. . The business turnout of oil companies will increase with the scheme and also, the poor families will be benefited. This will also avoid burden of crores of rupees on food and civil supplies department on providing kerosene to BPL families  having no LPG connections, it will also  prevent pollution.

The department said that better response has been received from the people of Udupi, compared to other districts. But a gap exists between number of applicants and the supply of LPG cylinders. It would be of a great help to needy if all all eligible could be provided with with the connections, hopefully all effort would be made.
