34th week - ’Swachh Mangaluru’ smartens Kunjathbail, Marakada areas

Mangaluru, Jan 11, 2016: Ramakrishna Mission carried out the 34th Swachh Mangaluru abhiyan as part of Swachh Bharat mission in Kunjathbail and Marakada areas on Jan 10, Sunday. A programme at Marakada Government School on the theme ’Swachh Kunjathbail for Swachh Mangaluru’ set the tone.  Swami Jitakamanandaji, president, Ramakrishna Math, Mangaluru presided over the meeting.

Local corporators Harinath and Mohammad jointly flagged off the drive in the presence of Swamiji and dignitaries. K Radhakrishna, former principal, Government First Grade College (GFGC), Car Street, Tara Rao, Vittaldas Prabhu, students of SVS College, Bantwal under leadership of Bharathi Bhat, lecturer, volunteers from Nivedita Balaga, students from GFGC, Car Street students of government and Noble School at Marakada took active part.

Volunteers under leadership of Swamiji and Vasanth Kumar Perla, assistant station director, AIR cleaned Kunjathbail bus stand. Posters stuck on the walls of bus shelters were removed and walls were repainted giving them a fresh new look. The volunteers thorough cleaned the roads, foot paths and the road dividers in the area off the weeds and other debris that had accumulated or were thrown in the area. Compound walls too were cleaned.

Large vacant land on the premises of Marakada Government School was neglected for years. Heavily grown weeds and long grass was a shelter for serpents and others posing a danger to students of the school. On request from school development and monitoring committee, the volunteers fully cleared the area using grass cutting machine, earth excavators and tipper. Volunteers distributed handbills on Swachh Mangaluru Abhiyan.
