33 yr old convicted for cheating woman in land dealing case

Mangalore, Sep 28, 2014 : A 33 year old man has been convicted  by the Fourth JMFC Court in a case of cheating a woman of several lakhs of rupees through fraudulent land dealings in the year 2012 The Court has also imposed fine to the tune of several lakhs on him, failing which he will have to undergo additional period of imprisonment.


The convicted man is  Sampath Raj. It is learnt,  he had cheated Rajeshwari  Shetty of nearly Rs 33 lakhs which she had paid the former in instalments,  towards purchase of a piece of land shown by Sampath. The convict Sampath  had then asked Rajeshwari to buy the land which he shown her saying he would buy the rest.

The woman came to know that she was duped by Sampath only after she paid the full amount of Rs 33 lakhs in several instalments.Later she had moved the Fourth JMFC court which has now convicted Sampath  under seven charges.
Under two charges, he was directed to pay a penalty of Rs 6.12 lakh or  undergo two years of  imprisonment, while he has been asked to pay as  fine Rs 5.10 lakh in three charges. In this case he will have to undergo two more years imprisonment,  if he failed to pay the fine.


Under two more charges he will have to pay Rs 4.08 lakh fine  orone-and-a-half years jail  and Rs 2.56 lakh   fine or one year in jail.The court has directed Sampath to pay the fine by October 21.

Sampath was once earlier arrested on similar charges when he had cheated a dentist from Mangalore who was based in the US.
