3 held with valuables worth over Rs. 61 lakh

Udupi, Dec 19, 2019:  The police have arrested three persons and seized gold valuables, including coins and jewellery, weighing 1.633 kg, worth Rs. 61.47 lakh, which they were carrying without proper documents. The arrest and seizure happened at Bhatkal railway station on Tuesday.

A press release issued on Wednesday said the Assistant Superintendent of Police, Hariram Shankar at Kundapur, had received a tip that stolen gold was being illegally transported on a train from Ernakulam. The police waited at Kundapur, Byndoor and Bhatkal railway stations. Mohammed Ismail Bhatkal, who got down from the train at Byndoor, was caught and gold coins and jewellery were seized from him. The police seized gold biscuits from Rahif Bhatkal and gold coins and jewellery from Sayyed Umair at Bhatkal railway station. The total cost of all the gold seized was Rs. 61.47 lakh.
