3 arrested on charges of blackmail

Mangalore, Dec 23: Vinay A Gaunkar, inspector of Mangalore North Police Station; PSI Manjunath KR, and other constables successfully arrested 3 ransom collectors near Averi Junction on Dec 23, Tuesday.

At a press conference organized in his office, Superintendent of Police Dr A Subramanyeshwar Rao said that Jayanand Ganiga of Manjeshwar Hosabettu and Chandrahas K Moolya of Ashoknagar were arrested when they were travelling by omni car KA 19 MA 4290 toward Averi Junction. Police have seized the omni car, 5 mobile phones, and 3 sim cards. The total value of the seized items is Rs 2,53,000.

The SP informed that the accused are associated with underworld dons. Already, 5 cases have been registered against Jayanand in different police stations.

The involvement of Abdul Latif, the third person arrested, was brought to light when the two were subjected to interrogation. Accordingly, the police arrested Lathif near KC Nagar on K C Road and seized a car, a passport, and other items worth Rs 51,000 on Dec 23, Wednesday, at 7 p.m., the SP said.

The arrested are accused of blackmailing rich people and extorting a lot of money from them.
