Mangaluru, Nov 12, 2015 : The Car-free day Movement, an initiative of the Mangaluru Bicycle Club was launched by Mangaluru Police Commissioner S Murugan on November 12, Thursday. T-Shirts relating to the movement were also unveiled by the Commissioner on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, he said citizens ought to support the ’Car-free Day movement’ if they want their city to be pollution free. He also stated that the Car-free Day will be observed on the second Saturday of every month henceforth.
Even the Police Department would strive its best to encourage and support this movement, he said and called upon Mangalureans who own cars to rest their vehicles at least during one day during a month.
Ganesh Nayak, Convenor of Jyothi Cycle Company and Convenor of the Club, highlighted the problems faced by cyclists in the city due to the absence of a separate track.
Kishan Bangera, a member of the Club hoped the city would soon have a bicycle track.
Many members of the Club and cycling enthusiasts were present.
