The project works were initiated one and a half years ago at a cost of Rs 30 crore.  The new taxiway will be 600 meters long as against the existing  taxiway  between the old airport terminal and the new airport, which is 250 meters long.  A single taxiway  has made it inevitable for a waiting period of 15 minutes between the arrival of an aircraft and departure  of an aircraft and the hope is that this problem will be solved once the parallel taxiway   become operational.

Record passenger traffic :  The MIA is heading towards registering a record passenger traffic during the year 2015-16. Already,  16 lakh passengers have used the airport during the year. If the number of passengers   travelling abroad has increased  by 40%, domestic passenger traffic has increased by 15%.

New flights to Bengaluru, Mumbai : Jet Airways will be operating new flights on the Mangaluru-Bengaluru and Mangaluru-Mumbai sectors from March 27 onwards. Three new flights to and fro Bengaluru and two more to Mumbai will be launched.
