Mangaluru, Dec 27, 2014: As many as 298 differently abled people will get special aids and appliances worth Rs 13 lakhs at a function to be held at the Taluk Panchayat premises on December 28.
Informing this to media men here on December 26, Friday, Deputy Commissioner A,B. Ibrahim said the beneficiaries were selected after a screening at a comprehensive assessment camp conducted by the Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Institute for the Physically Handicapped, Southern Regional Centre, Indian Red Cross Society and District Disabled Rehabilitation centre in the month of January.
He said the beneficiaries include 195 from Mangaluru taluk, 35 from Puttur, 29 from Bantwal, 18 from Sullia, 17 from Belthangady, 2 from Kundapur, and one each from Kasargod and Chikkodi. They will be provided artificial limbs, califers, CTEV shoes, modified shoes, posterior splints, wheel chairs, tricycles, arm crutches, elbow crutches, walker sticks, knee gaiters, Braille slates etc according to their requirements.
As many as 100 NSS volunteers will also take part in the function to assist the beneficiaries. There will be a total of eight counters to assist the beneficiaries and their caste and income certificates will be verified, informed District Disabled Welfare Officer Chandrika.
She also informed that taluk level camps are conducted for the benefit of disabled persons and senior citizens to enable issuing of ID cards to them. The camps are held in the city on Monday and Tuesday at Sullia on Thursday and at Bantwal on Friday and Saturday, she said.
