23 new Covid-19 cases in Udupi today

Udupi, May 24, 2020: A total of 23 persons have tested positive for Covid-19 in Udupi district on May 24, Sunday as per the noon and evening bulletin of the State Health Department.

Of the 23 persons, 17 are those who have returned to Udupi from different parts of Maharashtra.

Among the 23 who have been tested positive, there are four children under the age of ten years. Others infected include 11 men and 8 women.

With this a total of 76 Covid-19 cases have been reported from Udupi district so far. In all 72 are active cases.

In a statement issued here on Saturday, Deputy Commissioner G Jagadeesha has said 8,010 people of Udupi district, who had returned from other States, are presently staying in quarantine Centres in the district. So far, the throat swabs of 3,617 persons had been taken and sent for testing to lab. The reports of 1,208 persons had been received, while the reports of 2,409 persons were pending.

Since the testing labs were facing heavy pressure with every passing day, the throat swabs were being sent to different labs, including Kasturba Medical College (KMC), Manipal; Yenepoya, Mangaluru; KMC, Mangaluru; SIMS, Shivamogga; and Wenlock Hospital, Mangaluru, for testing.
